CASE STUDIES

From time to time we will be featuring Case Studies detailing recent projects we have completed for customers.
We hope these will give you an insight into the type of problems we encounter, and through our expertise, the solutions we provide.

If you have an unusual or problematic specification contact us now and speak to our highly knowledgable customer team - we are confident we can provide you with a solution.

Client - Private school in Gloucester

Customer - Allcooper, access control specialist

Customer Needs - The school is a listed building and had a wide range of external doors, including some older double rebated types. Ironmongery was required that would meet the emergency escape needs of current fire regulations and yet offer the high security a school would need for it’s pupils and teachers’ protection. As the building was listed the external requirement was for traditional brass door hardware, however the interior of the school had been radically updated to meet the modern demands of a busy school, and was fitted with modern chrome hardware.

Solution - Through our understanding of ASSA high security locking systems and compatible access control products we were able to satisfy the requirements of this challenging project. ASSA Modular locks were integrated with MICO emergency & panic hardware and SOLID electric strikes to create a suitable access control package, whilst the handles and accessory sets were specified with brass fittings for the exteriors and chrome for the interiors. As the specification required sprung lever handles, all sets were supplied suitably handed for each door.

Client - Overseas Embassy

Customer - Higrade Hardware Ltd.

Customer Needs - The Embassy building was in Oman and had a range of nineteen high security doors throughout. The doors varied in thickness from standard 44mm to 75mm thick acoustic doors, some in wood and some in steel. All the doors utilised ASSA Modular locks and were fitted with a suite of complimentary door furniture. Because of the unique requirement of each door it was important that all the necessary door furniture fitted properly, was fully functional with the locks and was easily identifiable for each door.

Solution - It was important to ensure the correct accessory sets were installed on site, and to each individual door, not only for the differing door thicknesses but also for the different lock functions. Bespoke accessory packs were created for each individual door, comprising suitable cylinder rings, cylinder screws, extension pieces, thumbturns & followers and turn screws. All were packed and numbered for ease of identification on site. With our high level of expertise and understanding of ASSA products we were able to ensure that the remote fitting of the sets would be problem free in Oman.

ASSA CLIQ™ Electromechanical Master Keying

One of the most vulnerable parts of any building security system is its users. Their keys and tokens can be lost, compromised or copied, putting all their colleagues at risk.

ASSA ABLOY Architectural Solutions will be launching its answer to this problem: the highly innovative new CLIQ technology in April 2007.

Lock systems with built-in intelligence

The new CLIQ technology combines the best of design and electronics in the smartest possible manner. This intelligent lock system is built into the new generation of ASSA dp™ lock cylinders. CLIQ makes intelligent, flexible and high security lock systems possible. The system's mechanical design creates the basic foundation, which is made up of different security zones or levels. The electronic programming of the keys gives authorisation to individuals or to groups of individuals, allowing you to manage and control your security electronically.

Keeping out unauthorised intruders is vital; but so is allowinglegitimate users to pass freely.Particularly in a fi re or other emergency, occupants of the building must be able to escape. The Evolution range includes escape locks which comply with BS 5588, BS EN 179 and BS EN 1125 when used with suitable accessories.

LPCB Doorsets

Guardian Security Group are pleased to announce two important additions to their extensive range of security steel door sets.

We are now able to offer security door sets certified to LPCB 1175 security rating 3 and LPCB 1175 security rating 4. These door sets have the advantage of being tested as a complete package, so the each element of the door is exposed to the attack test, this covering the frame, hinges, locking mechanism and of course the structure of the door.

Equally important is the method of fixing which is clearly defined and carried out by approved and trained installation engineers. The LPCB security rated 4 door is available with either ASSA high security mortise dead locks or multipoint locking systems from Mico or Surelock McGill and can be supplied as a single or double leaf set.

A revolutionary new form of window protection

Guardian Security Group are proud to be able to offer a revolutionary new form of window protection which combines the aesthetics of vertical blinds and their practicality in terms of light and access control with a high level of security. From a distance they look like any traditional vertical blinds. On closer examination, each blind is formed from an aluminium blade with a 12mm steel rotating rod passing through its centre, offering a high degree of resistance to physical attack. When closed a locking bar can be inserted on the inside which effectively provides a steel screen across the inside of any window or opening.

This product is ideal for commercial, industrial, education and residential properties., particularly where aesthetics are important.

The product is approved to Gold Level by Sold Secure and is also a Police Preferred specification. We are happy to provide further information or budget costings.

Crime Shield

These days perhaps more than ever before there is a conflict between increasing security on a building and the aesthetic appearance of that building. Along with doors, windows are probably one of the most vulnerable areas to break in and accessing a premise. They are also a prime target for vandalism. Historically windows have been protected with security bars, heavy duty grilles and roller shutters. All of these have a place but an option that is being considered ever more widely is Crime Shield. The major advantage of this product is that from a distance it appears like a subtly tinted window. On closer examination is becomes apparent that it is a high security steel mesh punched to allow 60% visibility. Crime Shield is rated to LPS 1175 category 1 and is endorsed as a secured by design police preferred specification.

If your client decides to pursue with an installation we will carry out a structural site survey and bespoke manufacture the product. Where necessary Crime Shield can also be supplied with an anti graffiti coating.
